Questions

Good to know

Short answers about screen rooms, 3-season rooms and our enclosures.

What is a screen and vinyl enclosure?

It is a window or door with two layers in one frame: a built-in screen, plus sliding vinyl panels in front of it. Open the vinyl for a breeze through the screen, or close it to keep out rain, wind and pollen.

How is it different from a typical screen room?

A typical screen room only has screens, so rain, wind and pollen still get in, and the space sits unused on cold or stormy days. Every Porch Conversions unit adds sliding vinyl panels in front of the screen, so you can close up when the weather turns.

Is this a 3-season room?

Not on its own. Porch Conversions makes the windows and doors. Once they are installed in a covered porch, patio, deck or garage, the finished space is what most people call a 3-season room.

Can I enclose my existing screened porch?

Yes! Every unit is made to order for your existing porch, patio, deck or garage, and the system is DIY-friendly, so you can install it yourself. For a more challenging project, we recommend working with one of our local dealers. Contact us to get started.

Why vinyl instead of glass?

Our specialized memory vinyl is more durable than glass. It resists cracks, dents and warping, and it returns to its shape after an impact, so kids, pets and the occasional baseball are not a problem.

How much of the opening can be open to the screen?

It depends on the product and layout. Vertical sliders and entry doors open 50–75% of the opening to the screen, and horizontal sliders open 28–57%.

What sizes can you make?

Every unit is made to order for its opening. Vertical sliders go up to 110″ tall, horizontal sliders up to 190″ wide, and multi-track doors up to 393″ wide. Fixed lites and trapezoids fill in the shapes in between.

What colors and screens are available?

Frames come in White, Tan, Clay, Bronze and Black. Vinyl comes in Clear, Light Gray, Dark Gray and Bronze. Screen options are Standard, BetterVue®, 20-20 No-See-Um® and TuffScreen®.
